Seven years ago, my son was diagnosed with Aspergers. Four years before that, my daughter challenged me with Pervasive Developmental Disorder. Raising my babies into their childhood was not an easy task, by any means. Every step of the way and every milestone was earned and not simply given. I didn’t wait for them to roll over, I had to make it happen. We learned routines and communication, piece by piece by piece. Blood, sweat and tears (and a lot of fantastic therapists) we have come a long way. It was a journey I WOULD DO AGAIN, without hesitation. Labels are just labels. I was given the keys to a whole new world that only a very few get invited. I’m proud of who my little ones have grown up to become. They amaze me every day and I can’t wait to know them as adults. Well, I guess I can wait a little bit longer! 🙂
All that being said……..Once a year I get the complete pleasure of photographing some of my favorite little cuties at Story Place Preschool. These little friends challenge me in every way too, and when I can offer them school portraits that their families are proud enough to hang on the wall, then I am doing my little happy dance.
